Support Services, Information, Advice and Personal Advocacy

Respond in person/phone to a range of queries from older people and their carers eg. advising where to obtain a service, what is available. Provide confidential support and empowerment to older people.

Information and Resources

Provides information and resources such as brochures and booklets on a wide range of topics relevant to older people.

'Community in Action' our monthly magazine

Accredited Visiting Service (AVS)

Provides regular social contact and mutually beneficial relationships through matching a trained volunteer with an older person.  Our volunteers are from vast cultural backgrounds and an array of ages from 18 to 86yrs.

Volunteering Opportunities 

Volunteers are highly valued and help us in our work.  We involve volunteers of all ages and welcome people from all walks of life.  Use your skills in an area of your interest:

  • visiting older people in the community
  • delivery of Meals on Wheels
  • peer leadership - Steady As You Go, Age on the Go events, driver education
  • daily activities in our Active Ageing Centre
  • supporting fundraising activities
  • and much more

Give others the benefit of your life experiences.  Everyday volunteers make a difference by assisting older people living in our community to maintain independence and well-being.

Seniors Clubs

Coordinate 3 seniors clubs and support the activities of over 60 others.

Elder Abuse and Neglect Prevention Service (EANPS)

  • Confidential support, advocacy and information for people facing elder abuse and neglect
  • EANP Education - public seminars, professional training, enduring power of attorney (EPA)

Health Promotion

A range of projects that aim to increase the wellbeing and health of our community's older people.  Includes some education programmes.

Health Promotion Forum of New Zealand

Safe Journeys

A free refresher course for mature road users.  Our trained facilitators use activities, discussions and videos that look at driving in today's busy environment and investigate coping strategies and tips for older drivers.

Total Mobility Scheme

Provide assessment and provision of Total Mobility taxi vouchers.

'Steady As You Go' Falls Prevention

Strength and Balance and Tai Chi classes available in nineteen Dunedin suburbs as well as the outlying areas of Mosgiel, Brighton, Outram, Middlemarch, Broad Bay, Port Chalmers and Waikouaiti.  Also in rural townships such as Balclutha, Gore, Roxburgh, Alexandra, Queenstown and Ranfurly.

Meals on Wheels

Coordinate volunteer drivers for the hospital Meals on Wheels delivery service.

Representation

Provide representation and advice on older peoples' issues to local influential groups eg. District Councils.
