Local Age Concerns are continuing International Day of Older Persons celebrations with local events.
Local Awareness events
Age Concern North Shore

Age Concern Auckland
- Monday 3 October: celebrating the International Day of Older Persons with students from Lynfield College at the Mt Albert War Memorial Hall, New North Road- Mt Albert > LINK to PDF
- International Day of Older Persons Free Beginners Computer Course 4 weeks from 28 September > LINK
Age Concern Hamilton
- Age Centre Open Days on Wed 28 & Thurs 29 September from 10am-2pm;
- Taking part in a walk: Friday 30 September at 9.30 am from the CAC centre
- Saturday 1 October is the Masked Ball at the Celebrating Age Centre 6.30pm - 10pm.
- All events are free.
Age Concern Rotorua
- "Walking for Health" event on 1 Oct. Start 10 am. From RAVE (Rotorua Arts Venue).
- Two Walks: 1 of 30mins, 1 of 50 mins. All ages welcome.
- Spot Prizes and light refreshments provided. Certificates to all those over 65 who complete the walks.
- Guests: Ynys Fraser and Alison Brown..co authors of "Remembering" - "A Mosaic of Memories" and finalists in the Patrons Award.
Age Concern Tauranga
- Celebrating 25 years in Tauranga on September 24th with a Lunch and entertainment for all members Old and New.
- Tuesday 27th: "Approaching Senior Years" seminar - What services are available.
- Wednesday 28th: A public meeting on EANP in Papamoa.
- Thursday 29th: "Eyes of the World" - a talk by Ron Fyfe- Optometrist and an insight into digital television and what is required.
- Saturday October 1st : Global Embrace walk followed by a BBQ.
Age Concern Havelock North
- Minister for Senior Citizens Craig Foss is participating in a combined IDOP event on Saturday October 1.
- He will also take part in an ‘old and young celebrating age’ walk through Havelock North on Friday 30.
Age Concern Wairoa
- Annual General Meeting Tuesday 27th September 10 am
- OPEN DAY Wednesday 28th September 10 am - 3 pm
- Volunteers Happy Hour Friday 30th September 5.30 pm
- International Day of Older Persons Monday 3rd October: Mayoral Morning Tea 10 am Wairoa Community Centre.
Age Concern Taupo
- Celebration lunch on 30 September with speeches from college students.
- Display at Taupo Library.
Age Concern Napier
- Celebratory IDOP Morning Tea on Thursday 29th September at our new rooms at 98 Taradale Road, Napier.
- Awareness display at WINZ Superannuation Centre in Napier for Age Concern Awareness Week.
Age Concern Hastings
- Age Concern Hastings & Heretaunga Seniors are collaboratively organising a local celebration of International Day of Older Persons.
- They have planned a fun afternoon of musical entertainment and nostalgia with a scrumptious Devonshire tea to be held at the Hawkes Bay Opera House Plaza. Free for older people.
- The event runs from 1pm and will go through till around 4.30pm. If you are interested in coming along please contact Ruth Lockley on 870 90 60 or Barbara Byford 870 7025 for more information.
Age Concern Manawatu
- ‘Carfit’, an educational event offering older drivers a free check on how well they personally fit the safety features of their vehicle. CarFit will be set up in the Gateway Church, Church Street (opposite The Warehouse) on Saturday 1st October from 10am to 2pm as part of celebrating International Day of the Older Person.
