Youth Week 2010
Age Concern supports Youth Week each year.
The theme for Youth Week 2010 was ‘Rangatahi ora: whanau ora’, and it was about connecting young people (12-14 years) and their families.
We support the week because intergenerational events that bring older and younger people together are a win:win. Older and younger people all benefit from better understanding and relationships.
Last year there were some great events involving older people:
- Young people put on a dinner for local seniors
- Young people taught older people how to text
- Kaumatua and kuia helped students build a Maori medicinal herb garden.
Local Age Concerns can include information about Youth Week in member newsletters and get younger people involved in Age Concern activities.
