Advice for men

Three generations of men

Men still have shorter life expectancy than women and have a range of health problems. This page suggests steps that men and their loved ones can take to improve men’s health.

The current situation:

  • Many men ignore their health issues in the hope they will go away
  • They tend to avoid treatment for fear of what they might learn or have to go through, and they don’t get treatment unless things are really bad.

Age Concern suggests an alternative:

  • In many cases getting treatment or advice early will not only deal with the problem easily and painlessly, it will also stop all the worry and prevent simple health issues becoming bigger problems.

A three-point plan

Age Concern's three-point plan for men’s health:

  • Get a health warrant of fitness now – it may help prevent problems later
  • Take action to stay healthy – eat well and exercise regularly
  • Get early help with any problem – it will make you feel better to have more information about it.

Our Men's Health pamphlet also includes tips for men on how to keep fit and healthy, and a list of useful organisations and web sites.
