Age Concern has caring people who would love to visit you. 

Our Accredited Visiting Service Ratonga Torotoro Whaimana (AVS) provides regular visits to older people living in communities across New Zealand.

If you are 65 or older and feel that you would like more company, we can help. 

You have so much  to offer:

• Your experiences
• Your friendship
• Your ideas and opinions
Take this opportunity to share them with a volunteer visitor

We’ll find the right visitor for you

If you decide to find out more about having a visitor, your local AVS Coordinator will visit you to get to know you and find out about your interests.

If you agree, the Coordinator can then match you with a carefully chosen, trained volunteer who will visit you for about an hour a week.

We will keep in touch with you and your visitor to make sure you’re both enjoying your visits. If there’s ever a problem, we’ll work with you to put it right.

Volunteer

You could be a volunteer visitor.  Your visits would make a real difference in an older person’s life. 

Are you:

• Warm, friendly and do you enjoy a chat?
• Keen to spend time with an older person?
• Able to give about one hour per week on a regular basis?
• Respectful of confidentiality and of other cultures and ways of doing things?
• Ready to be part of a team and experience ongoing support and training?

One thing to be aware of –

AVS aims to provide company.  Visitors may take people out if they feel able, but it is not their role to help with shopping or household tasks.
