SuperGold Cards

Discount schemes for seniors like SuperGold Card help make fixed incomes go further. They still need to be extended into products and services that older people rely on though.

Age Concern members tell us hearing aids, vision aids and teeth care are priorities for older people.

These can cost thousands, and for some older people this is more than they can ever afford. This can mean they can't see, they can't hear, or they can't eat and their quality of life is ruined.

Money issues are some of older people's greatest concerns, so it's vital that companies start offering real discounts on energy and everyday shopping items through SuperGold Card. Older people are searching for discounts and companies who join will find that seniors are very loyal consumers.

Getting a SuperGold Card

If you receive New Zealand Superannuation or a Veteran's Pension, or you're aged 65 years and over and receive some other form of assistance from the Ministry of Social Development, it's sent to you automatically. If you do not currently receive any of the above listed assistance, you will need to apply for a card

Your Super will need to be approved at least three weeks prior to turning age 65 if you wish to receive your SuperGold Card by age 65.

Photo ID - You may choose to add a photo to your card for free.  This could be useful if you do not have a current form of photo identification. Your nearest AA Driver and Vehicle Licensing outlet can arrange this.

Expiry dates on cards appear to be linked the the Community Services Card aspect of the card.

Comment

We're urging suppliers to get behind SuperGold Card.

A senior has an annual income of around $15,500 and most older people have very little extra income above that.
