Ellen Giles has worked in the field of cochlear implantation for 30 years. Ellen is based at The Hearing House, supporting the Northern Cochlear Implant Programme for adults. She has a strong interest in the rehabilitation of adults to ensure they obtain maximum gain in hearing with their cochlear implants. The “take-home” message from Ellen’s presentation will be that the benefits of cochlear implants impact mental health and quality of life, which is important for all cochlear implant recipients - especially for those enjoying their retirement. Cochlear implants have been shown to be cost effective - however, penetration of cochlear implants in eligible adults is as low as 5% .
