Murray Edridge has been the Wellington City Missioner since May 2018. Murray is the 12th City Missioner in the 116-year history of the organisation and the first not to be an Ordained Anglican Priest.
During the Covid-19 lockdown, Wellington City Mission faced unprecedented demand for its services - including increases in food distribution of over 400%, and housing the entire street-living population of Wellington City. To offset the challenges presented by Covid-19, the City Mission experienced significant financial generosity from the public throughout the lockdown and has benefited from the unique opportunity to explore the optimisation of what they do and how they do it.
During Vision for Ageing in Aotearoa, Murray looks forward to exploring how Covid-19 has offered us the opportunity to re-imagine our future and improve how we serve those who need us most. Hopefully this will inspire and challenge others to reflect on how they identify their “silver lining” from the challenges of the pandemic.
Murray’s career aspiration was to be a dentist, and his life aspiration was to become proficient on his unicycle. Epic failure on both counts!
