Nicola Sladden is the Banking Ombudsman.  The Banking Ombudsman Scheme (BOS) is a free and independent service which helps people sort out problems with their banks.   Nicola has over 25 years’ experience leading legal, policy and complaints services.  This session will give an overview of the types of banking issues the Banking Ombudsman is seeing that affect older bank customers.  The focus will be on Powers of Attorney and Enduring Powers of Attorney (EPA) cases.  Finding the right support for older bank customers has been complicated by the increasing incidence of financial abuse.  Many financial abuse cases involve a person who has an EPA for an older person.  BOS has seen an increase in these cases over the last year, so they’ve been sharing the lessons to see what more can be done to prevent financial abuse.  Nicola will share some practical tips on how to keep yourself safe from financial abuse.
