As part of the Housing Panel, Troy Churton will present on Retirement Village living. Retirement villages are an attractive housing solution for some, offering the ability to age in place with co-located care. Around 13% of 75+ year olds live in villages. The industry is dominated by the Occupational Right Agreement model. There are some innovations, but little model diversity, meaning many older people with limited equity may remain unable to choose retirement village living. Only about 600 village units out of more than 31,000 are sometimes available to rent. The Commission proactively monitors the effects of the Retirement Villages Act, regulations and Code of Practice and has recommended the framework be reviewed.
