Dr Gary Cheung

Senior Lecturer in Psychiatry & Old Age Psychiatrist
University of Auckland

Dr Gary Cheung will share an understanding of frailty from the perspectives of Chinese New Zealanders, based on research which used qualitative methodology to understand frailty from the perspectives of Chinese people.  Previous international research studies of frailty in older Chinese people have predominately used quantitative methodologies.   Gary would like his audience to understand that frailty is a multi-dimensional concept covering physical, psychological, social and environmental factors - and to understand the role of culture in the clinical presentation of frailty.

Gary also enjoys travelling and learning how to use public transport in foreign countries.
