The most recent International Narcotics Control Board annual report has labelled drug use among older adults as an "epidemic".  International experts agree substance abuse among people over 65 years old is a hidden and growing problem globally. Charmaine Diver is one of two drug and alcohol case managers working in Odyssey Houses’ “65 Alive” programme, New Zealand’s only specialist AOD service, and can confirm the projected statistics in relation to this hidden epidemic in older people is now trending upwards at an alarming rate.
