Joanne Allen

Senior Research Officer
Massey University

Joanne Allen will share her research describing profiles of material wellbeing among older adults in New Zealand as they approach and pass retirement age, and life course events associated with these socioeconomic inequalities. Attendees will gain an understanding of the impacts of a range of experiences of advantage and disadvantage on material wellbeing in later life, including serious illness, divorce and separation, home ownership and prolonged unemployment. Joanne’s research was prepared as part of a background paper for the Commission for Financial Capability’s 2019 Review of Retirement Income Policies.
