Wellbeing story
Tools for a better life
Peter was involved in an organisation that was pressuring him to hand his business over to them. Peter was greatly troubled by this and was considering suicide. The police asked Age Concern Tairawhiti to work with him.
We found him somewhere safe to stay, and gave him space to talk. Peter felt alone and fearful, so we went with him when we sought advice from a lawyer and an accountant.
We got in touch with his sister and contacted a safe house in Auckland. A medical assessment determined Peter’s mental health to be intact, but he was very afraid. We gave him plenty of reassurance and we supported his decision making which empowered him to leave his abusive situation. Peter is now living in a safe house and starting a new life.
