Wellbeing story
Specialised support eases stress
Michael and Susan were trying to support each other through major illnesses when they came to the attention of Age Concern Whangarei.
We sent our Dedicated Carer Relief worker (who is also a nurse) to meet with them. She gained an insight into their lives and has helped them immensely. She told them how to change the personal needs caregivers they were unhappy with and they now have deaf-friendly equipment for the house, and enjoy a weekly shopping trip.
Michael and Susan have also benefited from having someone neutral to talk to about their estranged family, leading to more harmonious relationships.
This level of support has allowed Michael and Susan to once again feel part of the society they had withdrawn from.
